Sickle cell disease is a genetic disease caused by an abnormality in hemoglobin. It is the most widespread genetic pathology in the world, it affects more than five million people. Periodontal diseases are all inflammatory or degenerative lesions that affect the periodontium. The objectives of this study were to determine the frequency of periodontal disease and to identify its lesions in order to identify the previous treatment received in children with a blood disease of genetic origin. This is a descriptive cross-sectional study that spanned a period of 6 months from March 1 to August 31, 2016. The survey was carried out in the pediatric department at Ignace Deen National Hospital. The target population was made up of all children and adolescents who consulted the pediatric department during the study period. At the end of this survey, a frequency of 73% of sickle cell patients associated with periodontal disease was recorded, of which 33.63% of the sample presented deep lesions with infra-bony pockets. The male sex was the most dominant with a frequency of 66% against 34% of the female sex with a sex ratio equal to 1.97. The results of this study reveal that the basic training of pediatricians in dentistry is necessary and that interdisciplinary collaboration is essential for the periodontal management of children with sickle cell disease.

Diabetes mellitus is one of the most common chronic pathologies in children because of its appearance in the pediatric age group. Gingival lesions linked to microangiopathy and the presence of tartar are exceptional in children. Periodontal disease can make it more difficult to control blood sugar. Current data from the literature has revealed that a diabetic child is more likely to develop an oral pathology than a non-diabetic child. The objective of this study was to assess the oral health status of diabetic children followed in the Endocrinology department at the National Donka Hospital. This was a descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study on the oral and metabolic disorders of diabetic children followed or hospitalized in the Endocrinology department by exhaustive recruitment over a period of 6 months. The target population consisted of 72 children aged 6 to 18 at the time of the study. A questionnaire was used to obtain data on socioeconomic level, sociodemographic level, behavioral level, oral hygiene habits and family history associated with an oral examination. The diabetic parameters are contained in the medical file. The impact of diabetes on the oral status of young patients was studied by qualitative and quantitative variables. A correlation between the duration of diabetes and the simplified oral hygiene index (p0.05). Most of the mouths presented carious lesions with a rate of 91.98% and an average C.A.O index of 2.94 ± 2.82. Inflammatory gingiva was present in 84.73% of patients and almost all (95.83%) had at least one oral condition. Oral disease is a social marker, diabetic children from disadvantaged backgrounds must therefore be targeted more specifically by prevention programs.

The effects of dental occlusion on the postural system arouse great interest especially in the fields of dentistry, neurology and sleep medicine. A primary bruxism occurs without any underlying organic cause while a secondary bruxism is linked to a known cause. Bruxism results in symptoms related to an overload of the masticatory apparatus, namely an advanced dental deterioration, pain in the temporomandibular joint, a physical change (square face, loss of vertical dimension of occlusion), and eating disorders, etc… The interceptive treatment may include opening gutter, physiotherapy, pharmacological therapies and cognitive-behavioral approaches with different objectives. . It allows to limit the destructive effects of bruxism. Prosthetic rehabilitation is required when the loss of tissue becomes important at the dental level. Here is a case report of a 47-year-old male patient with a bruxism related significant loss of dental tissue treated with a prosthetic device. Keywords: Bruxism; occlusion, prosthetic device.

The prescription of antibiotics and resistance linked to these drugs (considered a reason for therapeutic failures) in the medical field. The objective of this study is to assess the level of knowledge of dental surgeons Dental Centers of the Gamal Abdel Nasser University of Conakry on the use of antibiotics and antibiotic resistance. Methods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study lasting one month from May 1 to June 1, 2023 in the Dental Centers of the Gamal Abdel Nasser University of Conakry. Results: From the results of our study, it emerges 66,67% of dental surgeons at the Dental Center of the France-Guinea Association (AFD) and 33,33% of dental surgeons at Mercy Ships Dental Center 70,83% of the patients were men. The age range of 20-29 years old was the most represented with 62,5%. The male gender was more represented in 70,83% of cases. The majority of participants 83,33%, had professional experience of between 1-5 years and 58,33% of respondents had not received any continuing training in antibiotic therapy. With a score assigned to each questionnaire, the dental surgeons surveyed had an overall average score according to their level of knowledge and their attitude and practice were also considered average. Conclusion: Antibiotic therapy is very frequently used in hospitals in general and more particularly by dental surgeons because of the management of various infectious pathologies due to various bacterial germs. Thus, if this antibiotic therapy is not practiced correctly by dentists, they will face antibiotic resistance which will undoubtedly lead to treatment failure.

Abstract

“Natal and neonatal” teeth are rare phenomena but fairly well documented in the literature. These teeth appear before the age of dental eruption and are the cause of many complications. Their management is therefore an absolute priority in order to maintain an oral condition compatible with the physiological needs of the newborn. In this regard, many treatments have been described. Aim: to review the management of natal and neonatal teeth in order to better understand and achieve the best therapeutic modalities of this phenomenon described as “rare”. Natal and neonatal teeth have long raised many questions about their etiologies, their diagnosis and their treatment. Whether it is the pediatrician or the dentist, the diagnosis and the treatment involvement is based on unanimity and active collaboration between the medical teams. The treatment, ranging from a simple polishing to the extraction of the natal or neonatal tooth, it is wise to establish a therapy adapted to the clinical situation while sensitizing the parents of the importance of a clinical and radiological follow-up of the oral condition of the child with this particularly rare anomaly and which may be associated with a general pathological condition.

Introduction: Thanks to the advent of flexible materials, it is possible to improve the aesthetics of RPRP-MF by producing flexible PRP with a metal frame (FPRP-MF). This FPRP-MF does not allow visible metal clasps and the false gum is more natural looking. The objective of this study is to conduct a survey on the knowledge and practices of dental surgeons in Abidjan from the FPRP-MF.
Materials and method: This is a cross-sectional, descriptive study, carried out among dental surgeons in the city of Abidjan. An anonymous survey sheet including general information, clinical information and knowledge and practices of FPRP-MF was established to collect information. The study lasted 6 months (February to July 2021). Data processing was performed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20 under Windows 10.
Results: Only 4% of practitioners say they know the FPRP-MF. It is practically not present in the therapeutic arsenal of practitioners (2% do).
Conclusion: The FPRP-MF remains very minor in the daily therapeutic arsenal of dental surgeons in the city of Abidjan.

Flexible resin has been used in dentures since the 1950s. Its properties are improved by reinforcement with glass fibers. Studies have shown that it has a high fracture resistance, a low modulus of elasticity, which is the reason for its flexibility, and a lower flexural strength at the proportional limit. The physical properties of flexible resin are favorable for use as a prosthetic base material. Flexible prostheses bring more comfort and aesthetics to the patients and they find their indications in several clinical situations that we are going to illustrate them through a series of clinical cases.
