The objective of our study is to determine the prevalence of the orthodontic anomalies among a population ofhigh-school teenage pupils in Beni Mellal, Morocco, toestablish the possible correlations and associations between the various malocclusions according to the variables of age, sex and socio-economic level and to compare the results with those of other similar studies.
We studied the prevalence on a sample which was randomly selected and which included 1042 high-school pupils from a secondary school in Beni Mellal.
The results have shown that approximately 77,73% had a normal occlusion and that 22,26% presented at least one malocclusion. Indeed, 13,33% of the examined pupils had malocclusions of class 2 (division 1:7,77%; division 2:5,56%) and 7,48% had malocclusions of class 3.
Approximately 57,00% of the sample presented a normal overbite, 29,07%, an overbite ? 3mm while only 13,91% had an overbite ? 2mm.
Crowding was the most frequent anomaly with a percentage of 47,88%, whereas, the results concerning the midlinediastemas show that 11,42% of the subjects presented diastemas. The values of anterior and posterior crossbite are respectively 9,69% and 7,58%.
Therefore, teenagers from Beni Mellal need some health care in terms of orthodontic treatments.
