Over the years, dental implant manufacturers have developed many treatment techniques that make surfaces rougher, to improve primary osseointegration. But while the rate of early implant failure appears to have decreased, the rate of peri-implant pathologies remains increasing. surface roughness seems to have played a decisive role in the development of peri-implantitis. This work proposes, based on literature data, to treat the characteristics of the different surface roughness of the implant and their possible involvement in the development of peri-implantitis.

Objectives: This systematic review was aimed to assess the resorption rate and the indications of overcorrection in alveolar distraction osteogenesis (ADO), as well as evaluation of the alveolar distraction techniques and if necessary to follow different augmentation protocols in different sites.
Materials and methods: this literature review was performed to analyze the outcomes of clinical studies of alveolar distraction osteogenesis listed by science direct in the period from January 2003 to December 2016. The search terms used, in simple or multiple conjunctions, were ‘distraction osteogenesis’, and ‘bone augmentation’. Studies were selected according to pre-determined inclusion and exclusion criteria.
Results: The initial search yielded 1625 titles. After a subsequent filtering process, 19 studies covering 366 cases and 416 distraction procedures were finally analyzed. The mean augmentation rate was 8.218mm (range, 5-20 mm). The rate of resorption was almost similar in the included studies (15.8-25 %.). The rate of distraction was between 0.5 mm to 1mm daily. The consolidation period was 12 weeks in the almost studies, the other studies reported various consolidation period 6 weeks- 14 weeks.
Conclusions: alveolar distraction is not an uncomplicated procedure. The distraction protocols might be modified individually independent to position of distraction to avoid some complications. There are significant rates of resorption in vertical alveolar distraction osteogenesis for one reason or another, but sufficient overcorrection should be solving this problem.

Ectodermal dysplasia is a rare condition, affecting one in 100,000 people. It is a polymalformative syndrome which combines a triad: hypohydrosis or anhidrosis, hypotrichosis and hypodontia or anodontia. Management is multidisciplinary, first on the general level, but also on the odontostomatological level. Dental treatment consists of prosthetic rehabilitation in order to restore functions (chewing, swallowing, phonation) and restore aesthetics, which can affect the normal flow of life. We report the clinical case of a 12-year-old girl who was diagnosed with anhidrotic ectodermal dysplasia and who received rehabilitation with a partial removable prosthesis.

Abstract

The dental impression is the initial step in the prosthetic restoration. It is used to make plaster models for the pre-prosthetic study, to make an individual impression tray, occlusion models, or to make final prostheses.
The risk of contamination of the health care staff and laboratory personnel via the dental impression must be properly managed in accordance with international recommendations.
These desinfection protocols are essential in the daily practice of dentists, especially now that we are facing the Covid-19 pandemic. This new coronavirus, given its mode of transmission, implies the adoption of a rigorous asepsis procedure in dental practices.
In this article, we will first address the different methods of impressions desionfection, while preserving their qualities. Then we will describe the updated protocol of dental impression desinfection including the management of the risk of contamination by this new virus.

Introduction: Infectious risk management aims to do everything possible to ensure the security of patients and healthcare professionals. This study aimed to assess the management of infection control in Conakry Dental public health services of Guinea, in the current context of the corona virus (COVID 19).
Methods : This was a cross-sectional study carried out in ten dentals public health services in Conakry city. The study population consisted of dentists who worked in public health centers in Conakry. Data collection was done through an individual questionnaire. The sampling was non-probability and involved all health dental practitioners who agreed to answer the questionnaire.
Results: This study included a total of 71 dental health practitioners. Among them, mostly were dental surgeons (92.96%; n = 66). Almost two thirds of the practitioners (66.20%) have then and more professional experience. Twelve participants (16.90% of practitioners) had received hepatitis B vaccine coverage and 54.93% of them had received training in infection prevention and control. Out off 71 practitioners, 64.79% claimed to have been exposed to blood or biological fluids during their daily practice. Wearing single-use gloves and changing them between each patient is practiced by 78.87% of practitioners and 52.11% systematically wore a mask. 36.62% practitioners practice systematic hand hygiene between each patient. The autoclave is used in 20% of departments for sterilizing equipment. The sorting of production waste is carried out by 43.66% of practitioners. Sixty percent (60%) of health facilities use incineration for the disposal of infected waste (soft, sharp and sharp) and 20% dispose of toxic and chemical risk waste by burial
Conclusion : This study showed that the risk infectious management remains to be improved in the public dental health services in Conakry. The training capacity building plan for practitioners should be focused on the prevention and infection control. Providing the individual protection kits to the practitioners by the health authorities should improve infection control in the public dental health services.

LASER IN THE TREATMENT OF PERIODONTAL POCKETS: A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE

Abstract

Introduction: The standard Gold for periodontal pocket treatment
is manual and /or ultrasonic scaling and root planing
(SRP). However, it is often insufficient to completely
eliminate pathogens and their byproducts in inflamed
periodontal pockets. Hence, a strategy based on the
association of laser and conventional treatment has
been suggested to overcome these limitations. The
purpose of this systematic review was to assess the
effectiveness of this combination during initial therapy.
Methods: An electronic search was performed through MEDLINE
and EBSCOhost databases using the appropriate Mesh
words. Data from the selected studies were extracted
and analyzed.
Results: 28 studies (10 systematic reviews and meta-analyses,
18 randomized clinical trials) were included in our
review. Their data were extracted using a grid established
for this purpose. Different laser therapies were
used with various protocols.
Conclusion: The effectiveness of laser therapy, as an adjunct to
SRP, is proven in the treatment of periodontitis in
general. It is also interesting in cases of severe,
aggressive or chronic periodontitis in deep pockets
inaccessible to SRP. The results obtained are proven
in the short-term with the various protocols used.
Ultimately, long-term clinical studies as well as
standardization of parameters and protocols are
recommended.
